Pyrrhon of Elis

He believed people could be certain of nothing. Followers of his philosophy became known as Skeptics

Diogenes of Sinope

He believed people should free themselves of comforts. He is often credited with starting the Cynic school of thought.

Epicurus of Samos

He believed happiness was found through self-control. The word “epicurean” came from his name.

Zeno of Cyprus

He taught his followers to accept fate but to try and lead a good life. His followers became known as Stoics.
